Sector: Healthcare
Services: Passive fire survey and remediation works
Project details
Helix FMS was appointed to undertake a comprehensive passive fire survey at Ward 33 at the Queen’s Centre at Castle Hill Hospital, with the goal of identifying fire compartmentation failures and delivering certified fire stopping solutions.
This work formed part of an ongoing safety upgrade across the hospital estate, supporting Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust’s legal and regulatory compliance with healthcare fire safety standards.
Our scope included a detailed fire-stopping inspection across highlighted risk areas in Ward 33. Working from existing fire strategy drawings, our team surveyed all relevant fire compartment walls and above-ceiling voids, identifying a range of defects.
Following an on-site induction and approval of the survey report, Helix FMS deployed our certified installers to complete all required remedial works. All fire-stopping installations were carried out using Rockwool-approved systems. Each product was applied according to Rockwool’s technical specifications, ensuring a fully compliant and evidence-based installation. Upon completion, every treated area was recorded, photographed, and documented for traceability.
Upon finishing the works, Helix FMS compiled a detailed Passive Fire Register, which included all certified penetrations, cross-referenced marked-up drawings, photographic evidence pre- and post-remediation and suggestions for future monitoring and ongoing improvements. This documentation now forms part of the hospital’s fire safety compliance records and will support future fire risk assessments.
Ward 33 is now fully upgraded with certified passive fire protection systems, significantly improving compartmentation and overall fire resilience. The project was delivered safely, efficiently, and with no disruption to the ongoing clinical operations of the hospital.
This project demonstrates Helix FMS’s ability to deliver technical fire safety works in high-risk, operational healthcare settings, working with precision, compliance, and care. We’re proud to support NHS partners with fire protection solutions that safeguard staff, patients, and essential assets.
