ICU Link Corridor

Location: Hull Royal Infirmary

Client: Ashcourts

Sector: Healthcare

Services: Passive fire survey, certified fire stopping remediation, compliance reporting

Project details

Helix FMS was appointed by Ashcourt Construction to conduct a full passive fire stopping survey at the newly built ICU Link Bridge at Castle Hill Hospital. This important infrastructure connects critical care services and is a key part of the hospital’s expanded clinical footprint.

The objective was to assess the fire safety of all fire compartment walls and ceilings, identify any non-compliance, and deliver full remediation to ensure the structure met stringent fire safety regulations.

Our team delivered a comprehensive fire survey, following a site induction and detailed review of the client’s drawings. Following completion of the survey, Helix FMS, as an approved registered fire stopping contractor was re-engaged to carry out full remedial works across the ICU Link Bridge.

Our certified team used tested and compliant fire stopping systems to treat each defect, restoring compartmentation and bringing the entire structure up to fire safety standards. Each penetration was sealed in line with manufacturer specifications and NHS fire strategy requirements.

The ICU Link Bridge now benefits from fully compliant fire compartments, documented fire protection across all service penetrations and increased resilience in the event of fire spread or smoke ingress. The completed project ensures the safe movement of patients and staff between buildings, with passive fire protection aligned to HTM (Health Technical Memoranda) guidance and national regulations.

This project highlights Helix FMS’s continued role in supporting complex healthcare infrastructure with fast, reliable, and compliant fire protection solutions. We’re proud to partner with leading construction teams like Ashcourt to protect the NHS estate,  ensuring safe, operational continuity in high-risk, clinical environments.
