Helix FMS was appointed by Hobson & Porter to provide passive fire protection services for the Block D refurbishment at the Grimsby Institute. A key campus facility within the further education facilities.
As part of the site upgrade, our role was to assess, identify and remediate fire-stopping defects within the firewall infrastructure, ensuring full compliance with fire safety legislation and compartmentation standards.
Our works on the project were delivered in two key stages:
A full passive fire survey and inspection of all designated fire walls in Block D was carried out, with individual defects carefully.
Our certified installers returned to the site to complete all remedial works in accordance with fire safety best practice and product specifications. All defects were fully sealed using certified passive fire protection materials. A detailed Passive Fire Register was then compiled, including photographic records and a cross-referenced layout of all completed works.
As the works took place within an active education setting during a phased refurbishment, careful coordination was essential. Helix FMS collaborated closely with Hobson & Porter to ensure safety standards were maintained at all times, work areas were contained to prevent disruption to ongoing refurbishment efforts, and reporting was clear, accurate, and fully auditable for compliance purposes.
All fire-stopping defects identified during the survey were completed, certified, and signed off. The building’s fire walls are now fully compliant, helping ensure the safety of staff, students, and visitors, giving the client complete peace of mind.
