Project details

Helix FMS was appointed by MEC Humber to deliver Passive Fire Protection works at the Convent of Mercy in Derby, specifically within the boiler house. The works followed an initial inspection that identified key fire-stopping deficiencies which posed a risk to the integrity of the building’s fire compartmentation.

As a heritage religious facility, sensitivity, accuracy, and compliance were essential throughout the delivery of the works. Helix FMS conducted a detailed survey of the boiler house, with a focus on all fire compartment walls and above-ceiling spaces. All findings were documented with supporting photographic evidence and cross-referenced marked-up floor plans.

As an approved and certified passive fire contractor, Helix FMS was instructed to carry out all the required remedial works identified in the survey. Our team of accredited installers completed all fire-stopping installations to industry standards and manufacturer specifications, using tested and certified materials. All works were photographed before and after, and logged within the Passive Fire Protection Register, which was submitted to the client alongside updated marked-up site drawings for full transparency and traceability.

The project at the Convent of Mercy reinforces the fire compartmentation integrity of a historic and operational religious building. Helix FMS’s methodical approach ensured that all fire safety works were carried out with minimal disruption and to the highest standards of compliance.
