Project details
Helix FMS was appointed to deliver essential passive fire protection works at Ward 37/38 within Hull Royal Infirmary. The project focused on enhancing the safety of the emergency escape routes and improving the building's overall fire resilience, without disrupting day-to-day hospital operations.
The main objective was to provide effective fire compartmentation to protect the hospital's emergency staircase and critical structural elements in the event of a fire.
Key works included:
Bespoke Fire-Rated Wall Construction: A custom-built fire-rated partition was installed to compartmentalise the emergency staircase, creating a reliable barrier to slow the spread of fire and smoke.
Intumescent Coating Application: Structural beams in the area were treated with intumescent paint, providing vital thermal protection to maintain the integrity of the building's framework under extreme heat.
Collaborative Design and Execution: Working in close coordination with the NHS team, we designed a tailored solution that integrated seamlessly with the existing hospital structure and met all relevant safety and compliance standards.
As with all live healthcare environments, maintaining uninterrupted care delivery was a top priority. All works were carefully phased and executed to avoid disruption to patients, staff, or emergency procedures.
Thanks to the expertise and precision of the Helix FMS team, the project was delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of compliance.
This project further demonstrates Helix FMS's commitment to protecting critical healthcare infrastructure through robust passive fire protection measures, delivered with care, trust, and minimal disruption.
We’re proud to continue supporting the NHS in its mission to provide safe, resilient environments for both patients and staff.
