Project details

Helix FMS were instructed by Be Boys to carry out a comprehensive passive fire survey and remediation project within the basement area of the Municipal Hall Theatre in Coln. An iconic Edwardian landmark and much-loved public venue.

The works formed part of an ongoing programme of upgrades to improve the building’s fire safety compliance, ensuring it remains protected for future generations while maintaining its heritage character.

The Helix FMS team carried out a full passive fire survey of the basement area, identifying a range of issues compromising compartmentation and fire resistance. Each defect was individually highlighted, photographed, and recorded, with a detailed description of the remedial works required.

Following the survey, Helix FMS were instructed to carry out certified fire protection sealing works to address all identified issues.

All remedial works were completed by Helix FMS’s certified installers in accordance with the approved specification.

Each item was photographed before and after remediation, providing full traceability and assurance of quality. Once complete, the team compiled a comprehensive passive fire register and a cross-referenced, marked-up drawing, documenting all certified penetrations for ongoing maintenance and compliance.

All works were carried out efficiently and in coordination with the client team, ensuring no disruption to the theatre’s operations.

Working within the confines of a heritage-listed building required particular care to preserve original features while improving fire safety. The Helix FMS team ensured that all fire-stopping solutions were sympathetic to the existing structure, providing modern protection without compromising the historic integrity of the venue.

The completed works have significantly enhanced compartmentation in the basement area, providing vital protection against the spread of fire and smoke throughout the building.

This project reinforces Helix FMS’s expertise in delivering certified, heritage-sensitive passive fire protection. From detailed surveying to fully documented remediation, every step was carried out with trust, transparency, commitment, and care. Ensuring this important local landmark remains safe, compliant, and protected for years to come.
